For the third time in a row
Kirill Shunenkov for the third time in a row became the winner of the next stage of the All-Russian series of regattas “Optimists of the Northern Capital. Gazprom Cup
The best young yachtsmen of St. Petersburg, Moscow, Vyborg and Veliky Novgorod, performing on optimist class dinghy-monotypes, competed on July 20 and 21 in the waters of Klyuchevoy Bay, located near the yachting port "Johannes" (Sovetsky village, Vyborg district, Lenoblast). 110 yachtsmen took part in the regatta.
The regatta was held in good weather conditions. Particularly successful was the first day of the Optimists of the Northern Capital. Favorable weather conditions (wind up to 15 knots at the gusts) allowed four bright and interesting races to be held.
At the end of the first day of competition, Kirill Shunenkov took the lead. Athlete of the Academy of sailing showed the ninth, seventh and two first parish. Teammate Nikita Chernykh and representative of the Krestovsky island, Danila Ivanov, followed him.
On Sunday, in the area of Klyuchevoy Bay, the west wind in the area of six knots allowed only one start, which became the fifth and final at the third stage of the regatta series. Shunenkov reaffirmed his superiority. Cyril finished fourth and kept the lead. Danila Ivanov (“Krestovsky Island”) moved up to the second place, another “academician” Nikita Chernykh was third.
“Half an hour after the fleet took to the water, a working wind of the western direction blew, which allowed the organizers to conduct one race. Then the chief judge of the competition decided to complete the regatta, – says Denis Razumovich, the Academy coach. – Our guys – Kirill Shunenkov and Nikita Chernykh – went up to the podium. This is a good performance. Well done guys, they fought well, stably held the advantage. I think that we productively conducted the third stage of the “Optimists of the Northern Capital”.
For Kirill Shunenkov, the Soviet victory was the third in a row on the series Optimists of the Northern Capital. This season, only he wins the gold medals of these competitions.
Among the older girls, Daria Savinova from the Favorit sailing school (Vyborg) showed herself the best, Yulia Naimushina's silver (Yak SPb Sailing Academy), which also became the first among younger girls, another athlete of the Sailing Academy finished third in the regatta Sports Marina Babkina.
Among the younger boys (2008 year of birth and younger) Dmitry Yeryomin (“Krestovsky Island”) celebrated the victory for the second time in a row, Nikolai Larchenkov (“Raut” / ShVSM on the Air Force) came second, Pavel Gushchin (Sailing Academy) – the third.
Among the younger girls, as we have already written, the best result was shown by Yuli Naimushin, Angelina Ivanova (“Krestovsky Island”) – the second, bronze from Eva Turkina (also “Krestovsky Island”).
Along with experienced riders, novice athletes, "cadets" who competed in a separate fleet, took part in the regatta. Some participants of the regatta took the first steps in sailing only in June of this year. In the overall standings among cadets, Timofey Zhakov (Raut / ShVSM in the Air Force) won first place, second and third places went to Lev Freiman and Roman Nikolayev (Raut and the Academy of Sailing, respectively). In girls, Ksenia Romanova (the Academy) showed the best result, Ekaterina Barbina (“Rautu”) – the second, Arina Drachuk (“Krestovsky Island”) – the third.
