In the waters of the fgbi “South Sports” today launched a new regatta in the yacht class “Optimist”. The regatta will be 2nd stage of selection in national teams of Russia in the most popular children’s yacht class in the world.
In the race involved 204 of the young sailor under 16 years old from different regions of Russia.
The main judge of competitions Vadim Mekhanikov said: “Sochi has gathered all the “elite” class, this regatta will be the 2nd stage of selection to Russian national teams who will represent our country at world and European Championships. 5 days of competitions, we will endeavour to conduct 10 races, the first 5 qualifying. Every day we Petersbutg racers 3 fleet, at the end of training the best athletes will fall in the gold fleet, where he will continue the fight for the medals”.
Among the participants of last year’s prize-winners of superiority of Russia in the class “Optimist” Danil Ivanov (Saint-Petersburg, “Krestovsky island”, Artem Maksimkin (Dolgoprudny, Vodnik) and Kirill Shurenkov (Saint Petersburg Academy sailing of the Yacht club of Saint-Petersburg), so the struggle for the first place to be serious.
General management of competitions is carried out by the Ministry of sports of the Russian Federation with the Association class “Optimist” with the support of the southern Federal sports training centre “South Sport”.
The names of the owners of the Cup yacht club will be known on may 4 at 17.00. The final teams that will represent Russia at the world and European Championships, will be known after the Cup of the Association, which will be held in early June in St. Petersburg.
