In the Spanish El Balise, by tradition, the European Cup in the 29er class was held. This year 89 boats took part in the regatta. Compared to last season, the number of participants increased by 18%.
.Before the start of the stage in El Balis, last year's favorites were Real Club Náutico de Valencia Cucurras Urios and Filippo Binetti. The crew of the three-time world champion in the Optimist class Marco Gradoni and Ettore Cyrilo also paid attention to themselves.
The sailing academy of the St. Petersburg Yacht Club in El Balis was represented by two crews – Vladislav Grakhov and Rodion Brovin and Vivea Eremenko and Maria Krylova. Grakhov and Brovin shockly spent the ending of last season. The young crew of the Academy took second place in the Russian Championship in class 29er and came 21st at the final stage of the European Cup on Garda.
Weather conditions in the waters of El Balis did not differ constancy. The first and last days of the regatta “pleased” the riders with a gusty and gusty wind of 22 knots, but in the middle of the regatta the conditions were not so extreme – only 4-6 knots.
Frequent changes in weather conditions have affected the stability of the results of our athletes. Grakhov and Brovin twice came in the top three – in the second and seventh races, but at the same time showed the 32nd, 17th and 14th parishes. Fortunately, the two worst results went to waste. In total, the crew account has 79 points, arrivals: 7 – 3 – (17) – 9 – 8 – 14 – 2 – 4 – (32) – 9 – 10 – 8 – 5.
Following the results of 13 races, Vladislav Grakhov and Rodion Brovin finished 10th in the overall standings and the first in the age category U17.
The female crew of the Academy – Vivea Eremenko and Maria Krylova – completed the regatta on the 85th line.
“The regatta took place with the wind rushing to extremes,” says the trainer of the Academy, Vyacheslav Ovchinnikov. – The guys coped with the tasks, but mistakes in some races did not give an opportunity to show the best result. The result – 10th place in the overall standings. I am glad that Grakhov and Brovin were ahead of everyone and headed their age group up to 17 years. Girls are getting worse. Despite the zeal, they were not able to show such a high result. In difficult weather conditions, flaws in the preparation appeared. We have something to work on. ”
In the overall classification, the victory was won by the British mixed crew Freya Black and Finley Armstrong – 16 points, the second came the Americans Stefan Baker and Marco Misseroni (26), and the third – the French Tanga Le Goff and Joanne Bertin (43). Last year's winners Urios and Binetti finished fourth, the crew of Marco Gradoni completed the regatta in 14th place.
