      At least 35 yachts, boats and houseboats were burned in a terrible fire that began yesterday shortly after midnight in a marina on the Tennessee River near Scottsboro (US state of Alabama).

So far, eight deaths are known (but perhaps this figure will increase further). “Strong gusts of wind blew fire in a matter of seconds, so we were powerless to do anything,” said one of the witnesses, whose brother, trying to escape, threw himself into icy water and drowned.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
