"Ebbs and flows – six meters each!"
European Championship in the class of yachts "Optimist" starts on Saturday in the French town of Crozon-Morgat
From June 22 to June 29, the best riders of Europe will gather on the west coast of France to find out which of them is the best driver of the Optimist boat. Here is what the All-Russian Yacht Association of this class reports:
Among the participants are seven Russian athletes who were selected for the European Championship following the results of the Russian Championship, the Sochi Yacht Club Cup and the Association Cup. Our country in France will be represented by the athlete of the Academy of sailing Kirill Shunenkov, as well as Andrei Sotnikov, Daniil Perchik, Vyacheslav Martus (all – “Rautu”) and Arina Bratashenko (“СШОР №3), Daria Savinova (“ Favorite ”) and Maria Struck ( "Vodnik").
Denis Razumovich, coach of the Academy of Sailing, heads the Russian team at the European Championship.
According to Razumovich, Russian athletes in Crozon-Morgat will find themselves in unusual conditions.
“The European Championship is taking place in the very west of France,” said Denis. – In Crozon-Morgat large ebbs and flows – six meters, twice a day. Therefore, it will be necessary to study the map of currents, watch their schedule every day. This will influence the strategy that we will use in racing. Depending on the flow may change profitable sides, and it will be necessary to understand, go right or left. In Crozone, the conditions are tough enough for our athletes, because we do not have such places where there are constant ebbs and flows. It will be unusual for our guys, but we believe in the best. We have great athletes!
