Defeated iFoil
An important decision of the World Sailing Conference in Bermuda: iFoil selected as a windsurfer for men and women at the 2024 Olympics (Paris)
The World Sailing Council approved a list of events and equipment for the Olympic Sailing Competition in Paris in 2024 at the 2019 annual conference in Bermuda.
The Council, the main governing body of World Sailing, discussed the proposal whether to change Events and Equipment at the Paris Olympics in 2024, but no one supported the proposal, which was therefore rejected in accordance with World Sailing rules. The Board then moved on to recommending the Equipment Committee to select iFoil as the male and female windsurfer at the 2024 Games.
The Council approved the iFoil choice after 31 WS members voted in favor, eight voted against and two abstained. This decision will now be forwarded to the World Sailing Annual Meeting, which should approve it.
Mixed double keel boat
After selecting a mixed keel double yacht for an offshore race at the 2018 conference, the World Sailing Council specified the process for selecting equipment for this Olympic regatta and its qualification competitions by approving application 043-19 with 39 delegates who voted in favor (two against) – zero).
The statement states that the criteria for suitable equipment for the qualification competitions in mixed sea races will be published no later than December 31, 2020. At the same time, an additional set of selection criteria for equipment for the Olympic Games in Paris 2024 will be published. The recommendation also states that the Equipment for Paris 2024 will be selected no later than December 31, 2023
