Cup of the Princess Sophia: day two

Special correspondent of Yacht Russia Anton Shibaev tells about what happened yesterday at the distances the jubilee, the 50th regatta Trofeo Princesa Sofia IBEROSTAR 2019, which continues in Mallorca

On Tuesday at the regatta the fight entered the windsurfers. In the men’s standings RS:X at once three Russian athletes entered the top ten – Evgeny Ayvazyan, Alexander Askerov and Vladislav Burmistenko. After three races they hold the 6th, 7th and 8th places respectively. Maxim Tokarev – 26th.

“The result is good, but I think in regattas of this level of competition it’s possible to win – said, Burmistenko at the end of the race. – We just try not to make mistakes, and we’re working on it”.

It should be noted that immediately after the “Cup of Princess Sofia” here on Majorca, will host the European championship in class RS:X, and some of the strongest athletes decided to skip the current regatta. Among them the leader of our team Stefania Elfwina. So in the women’s standings, Russia is now only one party – Maria Semenkova. It occupies 24-e a place.

Also started racing in a class 49er. Good result showed the crew Jan Cech and Ivan Zotov. In their group the boys finished in 9th, 8th and 2nd places. In the final report they now occupy 12th position out of 108 participants. Second Russian crew – Konstantin Nosov and Alexander Gaydaenko – on the 87th place.

Continued the qualifying race in the class 470. Paul Sozykin and Denis Gribanov have slid in the standings. After two races on Tuesday (10th and 12th wards) they are on 9th place.

“Today made a few mistakes at the start, but during the race, won it all, – said Gribanov. – Overall, we are pleased with the result. After the qualifying races are in the gold fleet. Now our task is to stay in the top ten and qualify for the medal race.”

The second crew in this class – Christian Czech/ Viktor Tarasov occupies 61-e a place. The women team of Alisa kiriliuk and Angelica Chernyakhovskaya also slightly worsened the situation – they are 33-I.

Sergey Komissarov and Maxim Nikolaev “Laser” started the day with a 7th and 8th wards, but in the 4th race were forced to risk – and both fell under the “black flag”. Now they are in 9th and 13th places.

In the class 49erFX Zoya Novikova and Diana Sabirova remain almost at the same position (49-e a place). According to the girls, they feel more confidence and finish in the middle of the fleet.
