Conflict in the River
We received the text of an open letter from honored athletes of the USSR and Russia, well-known in the yachting community around the world, about a gross violation of the rights of honored sailing veteran Konstantin Gavrilovich Boykov, the first yachtsman in the country who received the title of World-Class Master of Sports of the USSR, a resident of the besieged Leningrad.

Conflict in the River

We received an open letter from the honored athletes of the USSR and Russia, known in the yachting community around the world, about a gross violation of the rights of the honored sailing veteran Konstantin Gavrilovich Boykov, the first yachtsman in the country, who received the title of “USSR Master of Sports of the international class” in cruising yachts, a resident of besieged Leningrad. In navigation 2020, the leadership of the River Trade Union Yacht Club denied him command of the Greza yacht, of which he has been the permanent captain since 1986. It was signed by honored yachtsmen of the country, participants and medalists of the Olympic Games, world and European champions.

We have not yet been able to get a comment from the management of the River Yacht Club, but we are also ready to give the floor to the second side of the conflict.

According to the editors, the situation in the River Yacht Club is critical and requires its public resolution at the level of the city leadership. The country is at risk of losing the oldest and largest yacht club in Russia, which has become one of the hallmarks of St. Petersburg.

Below is the full text of the appeal:

Director of the PU “St. Petersburg River Yacht Club of the Trade Unions” V. Epishin refused to command the boat "Greza" honored captain Boykov K.G.

The leadership of the Saint-Petersburg River Yacht Club Club of Trade Unions committed an unprecedented rudeness that violates the concepts of humanity and morality with regard to Konstantin Gavrilovich Boykov, the country's first yachtsman who received the title of World-Class Master of Sports of the USSR in cruising yachts, a resident of besieged Leningrad. In navigation 2020, he was denied command of the Greza yacht.

Konstantin Gavrilovich came to the Central Yacht Club at the age of 13 – in 1949 – and all these years he was devoted to him. Already at the age of 21, he received the title of master of sports of the USSR in long-distance navigation and became a yacht captain, and later fulfilled the standards of a master of sports in sailing. In 1975, Konstantin Boykov was the first Soviet yachtsman to be awarded the title of international master of sports of the USSR for racing abroad. He is a 12-time medalist and winner of the All-Union competitions for the Baltic Sea Cup, champion of the Baltic regatta in Tallinn, five-time medalist and winner of the Muhuvain regattas in Estonia, five-time medalist of International regattas in Poland.

In addition to sports achievements, it is necessary to note Boykov’s active public work for the benefit of yachting development:

1955 – 1961 – Chairman of the sailing section of the Polytechnic Institute;
1956 – 1961 – Member of the board of the sports club "Polytechnic" (22 sports);
1956 – 1961 – Chairman of the city sailing section DSO "Petrel";
1961 – 1996 – Member of the city Qualification Commission;
1962 – 1990 – Chairman of the city Cruising Commission;
1956 to date – Member of the Council of Captains of the Central Yacht Club / River Yacht Club of the Trade Unions, from 1985 – 1994. – Chairman of the Council of Captains of the yacht club;
1962 – 1990 – Member of the Presidium of the Leningrad Sailing Federation;
1976 – 1996 – Member of the cruising commission of the Sailing Federation of the USSR.

In 1983, he co-authored a sailing textbook, The School of the Yacht Captain. With the participation of K.G. Boykov prepared state regulations, published training manuals for the training of qualified yachtsmen. Dozens of experienced sailors thank the captain of Boykovuz with the practical knowledge and skills gained in sailing under his command on the Kama, Solveig and Greza yachts. More than 20 sailors who went on yachts with K.G. Boykov, became masters of sports of the USSR, and more than 30 sailors, team members K.G. Boykova, subsequently became yacht captains.

Konstantin Gavrilovich — design engineer, laureate of the USSR State Prize “For Achievements in the Field of Science and Technology”, which has 36 inventions and patents. According to his drawings, thousands of models were produced for various needs of the national economy, including ultra-precise machines for the manufacture of miniature parts for the aerospace industry. For more than 50 years of vivid professional activity, marked by awards and medals, in an amazing way he always found time and strength for his favorite sailing.

Captain Boykov and his crew have been going to the "Dream" since 1986, and all this time they have kept the yacht in excellent technical condition, investing a lot of work and personal funds in its maintenance and repair. From a substandard yacht, the team made an excellent racing boat without any help from the trade unions, on whose balance it is located. This is just one example of that selfless service to sailing of yachtsmen from the Public Association “Sports Team of Yachtsmen of the St. Petersburg River Yacht Club”, celebrating its 160th anniversary this year.

Sailing helps Captain Boykov maintain excellent health, brilliantly go through all medical commissions and conduct active sailing and social activities. Each year, the Greza yacht continues to regularly win prizes in city competitions, and he himself – conduct free theoretical classes and write educational and historical articles.

June is about to come to an end, and after all, the whole period from autumn to spring, like all previous years, Konstantin Gavrilovich repaired the Greza, made it ready for the 2020 season. Do we really let him stay on the coast in this navigation?

As a mockery, K.G. Boykov was invited to become a "captain-mentor", without the right to conclude an agreement and with incomprehensible functions, one of which is riding on a champion yacht and serving guests V. Epishin. and Derbina V.G.

There is a violation of the right of a Russian citizen to play sports, contained in the Constitution of the Russian Federation, another episode from a series of prosecutions of a team of athletes of the River Yacht Club, petty revenge for refusing to support the commercial development project of the last of the public yacht clubs of St. Petersburg, authorized by the chairman of the Leningrad Federation of Trade Unions Derbin V.G.

They also include the expulsion of the Council of Captains of the NSC from the building built by the city for the 80th Olympics for yachtsmen. The next step was the expulsion of the NGO Sports Team of Yachtsmen of the St. Petersburg River Yacht Club, uniting 400 leading yachtsmen of the city from the club’s territory and the creation of the pocket “Sailing Federation of St. Petersburg”, the founders of which included the leadership of trade unions and ChU. Moreover, the entire sailing fleet is transferred to this federation, and yachtsmen are invited to join it. In case of refusal to yachtsmen, the fate of the Greza yacht team is destined.

We urge the sailing community to pay attention to the prevailing, in every sense unfair, situation, and the leadership of the organizations responsible for this should immediately stop violating the rights of yachtsmen and destroy the sailing fleet of the Russian nuclear complex!

A yacht club is the people themselves who are in it and support sailing traditions, and not business executives who believe that they can control the fate of captains.
