      "Battleship" opens a new season
On March 2, the first in the history of the 52 Super Series race in the southern hemisphere kicked off in Cape Town. According to the results of two races held 52 SUPER SERIES Cape Town 2020, the team of the Bronenosets Yacht Club of St. Petersburg takes the fifth line of the standings with one arrival in the top three.

"Battleship" opens a new season

The start of the official program of the first visit of 52 Super Series to the African continent was pleased with the excellent "sailing" weather. The first race was held in light winds, and by the start of the second race of the day the wind had grown to 14-16 knots. And this despite the fact that the official training a day earlier was canceled due to calm weather.

The configuration of the competition distance turned out to be interesting. The tacking line was fairly close to Mile Point, which created additional difficulties for navigators and tactics of teams. In fact, one side of the distance was very limited.

Not surprisingly, Phoenix11 host Hasso Platter celebrated the victory in the first race.

For the crew of the Battleship, opening the season with a high result is already a tradition. In June 2019, the team won the first race of the first stage, which became a good prologue to future success. This year, in the South African Cape Town, the Battleship almost managed to repeat success: in the first race of the stage and season, the team finished the second.

In the second race, the team under the Russian flag started from the disadvantageous left end of the starting line, and was fined on the first round. These factors nullified the Battleship’s chances of success.

By the sum of the two races that took place, the Battleship took fifth place in the ranking of ten teams. The competition of the first of two stages planned in Cape Town 52 SUPER SERIES will last until March 6.

The early leader of the standings was Phoenix11. With a minimum gap from the South African team, the winners of the 2019 season are Italian Azzurra and the team of the New York yacht club Sled.
