“Battleship” in the lead!

      "Battleship" in the lead!
On Friday, June 21, on the penultimate day of the 52SuperSeries Royal Cup competition in Cadiz, the crew of the St. Petersburg Yacht Club again climbed to the first line of the stage offset. But before the decisive day of competition, the advantage of the team under the Russian flag is minimal.

"Battleship" in the lead!

After a conservative, if not unsuccessful, start in the middle of the line “Battleship” was bending over the last but one. The more surprising is the rapid progress of the team in the second segment of the distance (full course). At the “gates” Vladimir Lyubomirov’s crew is already the fourth, and the fifth at the finish. Thanks to this (so far the worst) result in the seventh race, the Yacht Club team of St. Petersburg saved the second place in the overall standings. True, its advantage over the Turkish Provezza was minimal.

By the start of the eighth (second today) race, the wind had strengthened to 18 knots on gusts. On the line, the Turks seemed to have pulled out the golden share, confidently starting at the mark at a good speed. Within a few minutes, the closest rival of the team under the Russian flag increased the gap by tens of meters. But Provezza got carried away, let the wind in, and only the sixth sign was on the sign.

At this time, the “Battleship” was bending around fifth, and the second segment of the race, where the team of Lyubomirov worked perfectly, was decisive in the race: the crew of the Yacht Club of St. Petersburg was third at the “gates”. And finished.

This arrival in the top three allowed the “Battleship” to finish the day on the first line of the overall 52SuperSeries Royal Cup. Before the decisive day of the stage “The Battleship” has only one point of advantage over the titled Azzurra and four – over Provezza. Considering the absence of an overshoot in the “Super Series” stages, all teams – up to the sixth inclusive – have theoretical chances to win.

“We deservedly occupied the first line, as the team acts just fine, and most importantly – we manage to demonstrate a stable result,” says Vladimir Lyubomirov, the battleship of the Battleship. “But tomorrow has not become easier for us – we have to go out again and show everything that we can to the maximum.”
