On 6 March in Cape town ended the race the first stage of the 52 SuperSeries of the new season. By results of competitions the victory was won by the Italian Azzurra and the crew of the Yacht club of Saint-Petersburg “Bronenosec” finished fourth.
Held over five days, the regatta was the first in history visit of the fleet of class ТР52 in the southern hemisphere. Before this calendar 52 SuperSeries was concentrated in Europe, and twice the stages of the series were held in the USA. In South Africa, ten teams from eight countries went, at the invitation of the famous yachtsman and entrepreneur from Germany Hasso Plattern, which acts in the 52 SuperSeries with the project Phoenix under the flag of South Africa.
It Plattner led the classification during the first two days. But with the changing wind the team lost to the winners of the season-2019 – the Italian crew of Azzurra, which held amazingly stable race and won with a lead of 6 points.
The host team had a chance to influence the situation, but on the final day of competition calm weather prevented the race. The results of the previous day was recognized as final.
For the boat under the Russian flag first visit to South Africa was a success, in spite of mostly light winds that blue boat is not great. “Battleship” opened the stage of the season and the second coming in the first race and then won two of the seven held. Overall, the team lacked stability and in the midst of the Battleship receded on the seventh line.
“We are pleased with the result, let us dearly, says team Manager Alberto Barovier – after a small rotation, we have well-working communication within the crew and coherence. The fact that we managed to win two races in the difficult conditions, suggests that we are moving in the right direction.”
At the end of March here in Cape town, will host the world Cup class ТР52.
