At the camp in Valencia
From January 27 to February 7, Russian athletes of the Optimist class pass training camps in Valencia (Spain).
As part of the Experimental Team, 23 riders from St. Petersburg, Sochi, Azov, Sevastopol, Moscow, Rostov, Gelendzhik, Togliatti and Krasnodar went to the camp. The participants are young yachtsmen in the Optimist class, aged 9-14 years (born in 2006-2011). Recruitment to the experimental group of the Optimist class Yacht Association took place on a common basis and was formed on the basis of medical tests and sports achievements.
The team included Chernykh Nikita, Naimushina Julia, Larchenkov Daniil, Larchenkov Nikolay, Danilenko Vasily, Gushchin Pavel, Babanova Anastasia, Krupnikova Milan, Sotnikov Andrei, Laptev Alexander, Babkina Marina, Yuryeva Varvara, Cherpita Artem, Shunenkov Kirillenko, Kirillat Chirilatova Kirillenko, Kirill Alexander and Fastenko Nikolay, Lyubomirov Vladimir, Makurin Roman, Basalkina Veronika, Yakhin Ilyas, Sheludyakov Kirill, Kurtysh Yan.
The first group of athletes flew to Valencia the day before and had already started training. At this gathering, special attention will be paid to starts, tactics and strategy of races. Now the Russian racers are working with the specialist of the 8 Days a Week school David Lambruchi, as well as domestic coaches Anna Basalkina, Denis Razumovich and Kristina Yezhova. On January 29, the second part of the Experimental Group will join the team together with team leader Vadim Mechanikov.
Starting February 1, athletes led by a North Sails specialist will test sails and masts, as well as learn settings and theory. Later, the famous Italian specialist Simone Ricci will start working with the team. The 29-year-old coach needs no introduction. Ricci, representing Tognazzi Marine Village, is the trainer of the three-time Optimist World Champion Marco Gradoni, who has recently been recognized by the World Sailing Yachtsman of the Year. Also under the leadership of Simone in 2019, the Italian team won the European Champion title.
As part of the fees of the Experimental Team, athletes work on the strategy and tactics of the races, forecasting the racing situation, increasing the speed characteristics of the yacht, improving the technical elements and physical preparation.
