America Cup may be delayed
True, it is proposed to postpone decisive match races only for a month. In this case, they will be held not in March next year, but in April.
The Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment of New Zealand came up with a proposal to postpone for a month all the events, one way or another related to the 36th America's Cup in Auckland.
In this case, the stage of the America’s Cup World Series racing series (so far scheduled for December 17–20 this year) will be held in January 2021. Prada Cup races, which will determine the future contender for the America Cup, will be held not from January 15 to February 22, but exactly one month later. And, finally, the America’s Cup itself, when relations will be sorted out by the current Cup winner – the New Zealand team Emirates Team New Zealand – and the main contender for success, will be moved from March 6 – 15 to the same numbers in April.
All these alleged changes are connected with the fears of the New Zealand authorities that in December a mandatory two-week quarantine will not be lifted for anyone who wants to enter the country. It is expected that quarantine will be lifted from January 1, 2021.
True, the current Cup holder (Emirates Team NZ) and the “notebook” challenger (Italian Luna Rossa) met with hostility from the New Zealand ministry, saying that all the Cup events will be held in accordance with a long-announced plan.
However, it is clear that the final word will still be with the official authorities of the country.
