As we know, one of the most challenging winter kite-marathon long distance VAKE (Varanger Arctic Kite Enduro) is also cancelled. He was held in Norway in early April. The reason was not abnormally warm weather that we’ve used for the last time, a pandemic coronavirus Covid-19.
This is what today published the race organizers on his page on Facebook: “unfortunately, because of the pandemic, Covid-19 we have no other choice but to cancel VAKE 2020. We apologize to our teams, our volunteers, our partners and the community Varanger.
The last weeks we worked hard to VAKE took place, offering alternatives to local health authorities. But now the situation is out of our control. VAKE is responsible at the global and at the local level for the safety of our teams.
Globally – because we all need to minimize travel between countries to prevent further spread of the virus. Locally – since we have to take measures to prevent the spread of the virus in the Eastern part of Finnmark, where no outbreaks of infection.
For security purposes our teams – all ambulance personnel in Vilhena, vadsø and vardø has cancelled all scheduled events and are in standby mode. Without them we will not be able to safely arrange VAKE.
We hope to be able to arrange VAKE 2021, and next year will return full force!
Take care of yourself, follow the advice of the authorities and wash your hands often!”
