Ahead – Jeremy Beiu
In the 3600-mile Vendée-Arctic-les Sables d’Olonne race, which started from Le Sables-d'Olonne (France) last Saturday, Jeremy Beiu leads the Charal.
Recall that in this race, which qualifies for participation in the round-the-world Vendée Globe (start scheduled for November 8), 20 riders in IMOCA 60 class boats participate. True, only four skippers need to confirm their qualifications when they reach the finish line, and one more must be overcome at least 2,000 miles. The rest decided to go to the start in order to get the additional practice they needed.
Race route: from Le Sables d’Olonne to a point northwest of Iceland at the intersection with the 60th parallel – then turn south to the Azores, then return to Le Sables d’Olonne.
In the stretch to the famous cliff, Fastnet was leading Tom Ruyan on LinkedOut, but now, on Tuesday at 11:00 Moscow time, he is only third, behind Beiu 6.9 nautical miles. In second place is Charlie Dalen on APIVIA (3.5 miles behind the leader).
The best non-French participant – German Boris Hermann on SeaExplorer – goes 4th (39.5 miles from the leader).
