Accused of drug smuggling
The owner of the sailboat, which moored ashore due to bad weather, was arrested in Spain, reports Komsomolskaya Pravda. It turned out that a lover of sea travel was on the international wanted list.
In 2014, a Russian came to Peru on smuggling cocaine; he hid the drug in a portable radio. Under Peruvian laws, drug trafficking is punishable by up to 15 years in prison. Then the man managed to escape.
He fell into the hands of the police by accident – the weather failed. Together with a woman, also a citizen of Russia, he headed on a yacht along the Mediterranean Sea to the Portuguese city of Portimão. But the elements overtook at the port of Tarifa in Spain, and he requested permission to moor to the shore.
– When he wanted to leave the territory of the port and enter the city, they began to check him. According to police bases, it turned out that there is an Interpol warrant – based on a request from the Peruvian authorities who are looking for it in connection with the transportation of cocaine, a spokesman for the National Police in Cadiz told RIA Novosti.
It is not clear whether the man will be extradited to Peru or not – this will be decided by a Spanish court. While the man is arrested.
