This is the new world record for the single crossing of the North Atlantic from New York to Cape Lizard (the southernmost point of the United Kingdom) for 60-foot single-hull yachts. This achievement today set the 26-year-old Swiss Alan Raur on an IMOCA Open 60 class La Fabrique yacht.
No doubt: this is a real world record. True, now he has to ratify the World Council on Registration of World Records under Sailing (WSSRC). There seemed to be no violation of the rules (in any case, they were not reported). So, it seems, ratified.
At the same time, the achievement is certainly outstanding: the previous record, which since 2013 has belonged to the Frenchman Mark Guillemo, has been improved immediately by 12 hours, 25 minutes and 20 seconds!
The following year, Raura will launch the round-the-world Vendée Globe at his La Fabrique. And now he will be taken more than seriously.
