1750 miles
It remains to be overcome by the 63-year-old French skipper Francis Gouillon, whose task is to improve his world record at the IDEC SPORT max trimaran at a distance of 8800 nautical miles – from the town of Port Louis in Brittany to another Port Louis, on the island of Mauritius.
Three days ago, the last time we talked about the advancement of Zhuillon, the IDEC SPORT trimaran, leaving Saint Helena behind, was approaching the Cape of Good Hope. At that moment, the French skipper was ahead of his record 2009 schedule by 670 miles – and it seemed fantastic, because there was a moment when the current Zhuillon advantage over the previous one was only 10 miles.
And now the Cape of Good Hope is far behind, and the advantage of three days ago looks just ridiculous. Because now, after 16 days of sailing, Zhuillon is ahead of the 2009 schedule by … 1297 miles !!!
1750 miles remaining to finish at Port Louis on Martinique. Over the past day, IDEC SPORT covered 560.5 miles with an average speed of 23.4 knots. If the Frenchman manages to maintain the current pace (and after all, it happened, he walked much faster), he will be able to finish in 3.5 – 4 days.
Recall that the record from Port Louis to Port Louis of the same Jouillon so far is 26 days, 4 hours, 13 minutes and 29 seconds.
