Mega yacht Azzam, built in 2013, German shipyard Lürssen, is still the largest in the world. Its length is 180 meters. The construction of the steel giant took 28 months. The cost of the building amounted to 620 million U.S. dollars.
Its size is staggering. Just imagine: 180 meters – that’s two football fields or 12 wagons. While Azzam could easily accelerate to a maximum speed of 30 knots (55 km/h). This helped her two gas turbines with a total capacity of 94 000 horsepower, four jet setup and turbo diesel engine Wärtsilä-Sulzer RTA96-C with a capacity of 108 920 HP (80 kW 088).
It is the largest engine in the world: its length is 27.1 m, height – 13.4 m, weight – more than 2 300 t Originally developed for container ships, was perfect for a 180-metre mega-yacht, whose width is 20 m, and the estimated maximum draft of 4.8 m. there is no doubt that with such dimensions on Board the mega-yacht has sufficient space to realize any fantasy of the customer. Even the main saloon she has no analogs in the world: length – 29 m, width 18 m.
The customer and the current owner of the yacht Azzam Khalifa bin Zayed al Nahyan, UAE President and Emir of Abu Dhabi, whose fortune Forbes estimated at 15 billion US dollars. The construction of the vessel was preceded by a project competition, which was won by the exterior of the Milan Studio of Nauta Yacht Design and interior by French designer Christophe Leoni. Technical management of construction was carried out by Burgess Yachts. The chief engineer was made by Mubarak Saad al Ahbabi.
It is known that the style in which decorated the interior of Azzam, close to the neo-classicism of the early XIX century, during the reign of Napoleon Bonaparte. In the absence of photos from aboard a mega-yacht of them nobody has been able to obtain, even authoritative international yachting publications – you can imagine something resembling the Imperial bedroom at Versailles.
Azzam registered as a Charter yacht, but open information about opportunities and the value of its Charter never presented. Rarely a boat can be found in the Arabian sea, more rarely in the Mediterranean. In may 2015 the witnesses was able to see her passing Gibraltar. At the present time – and most of the time of the year – Azzam moored in the port of Khalifa in Abu Dhabi.
