Royal Caribbean International, founded in 1969, grew to include more than 20 cruise liners. In 2010, these vessels sailed to 280 ports, in 81 countries, on six continents. Royal Caribbean names their ships for intangibles, such as Allure, Radiance and Freedom. All Royal Caribbean ship names end in "of the Seas." Royal Caribbean has some of the largest cruise vessels afloat, in some cases topping 3, 000 passengers. In addition, the cruise line is known for its many active onboard features, such as rock-climbing walls on all ships, indoor ice rinks and surfing simulators.
Allure of the Seas
Allure of the Seas is one of the newest Royal Caribbean ships. Launching in December 2010, this ship houses 5, 400 guests on 16 passenger decks. Allure of the Seas, a sister to Royal Caribbean's Oasis of the Seas, offers several unique features. Among these are 28 loft suites, two-level accommodations with floor-to-ceiling windows and private balconies; two "flow-riders, " surfing simulators; and a Zipline adventure to whisk you from one side of the ship to the other. Guests on Allure of the Seas choose when and with whom they wish to dine. Choices include a Mexican cantina, a grill room, the traditional main dining room, an Italian bistro and a mystery dinner theater. Freedom of the Seas
Launched in 2004, Freedom of the Seas is one of Royal Caribbean's Freedom class of ships. This collection of three ships offers a surf park, canitilevered whirlpools, an ice-skating rink, a full-size boxing ring and the H2O Zone waterpark. Accommodations on the 3, 634-passenger Freedom of the Seas range from comfortable and affordable interior cabins to ones with private balconies and floor-to-ceiling windows to suites, some of which include two bedrooms, separate living areas and complimentary concierge service. For meals, guests can choose from a pizza parlor, an Italian bistro, a wine bar or the elegant main dining room.
Adventure of the Seas
The 3, 114-passenger Adventure of the Seas is one of five Royal Caribbean Voyager class ships. These vessels are designed to offer a plethora of activities, which include a royal promenade (sort of a Main Street USA on the ocean), an indoor ice skating rink, a British-style pub and a golf simulator Dining room choices include a 1950s-style diner, an Italian bistro, a wine bar and a Seattle-style coffee house. Staterooms on Adventure of the Seas include cozy interior cabins, a generous number of cabins with private balconies and suites, some of which even boast a baby grand piano.
